If you feel a bit like this, then you’re in the right place! Here at Wondermums we are all about support and creative ideas to help you navigate this period in your life, and your child’s life, because we all know it’s a whole different kettle of fish to when they were younger, right?!

So WELCOME! Make yourself at home. Have a look around this member’s only area - see the breadth of ideas you have available to you, and then don’t forget to join and keep checking the Facebook group:

The Hub of Ideas

Never be at a loss for what to ‘do’!

Dip into the categories below to discover a whole host of creative ideas that don’t involve too much messy play, glue, glitter or crafting! Creativity with teens is SO MUCH MORE than that!

These ideas are perfect for you and your teen (or soon-to-be teenager!) and will help to develop that extra special bond between you. Have a laugh, a giggle, share some creative thinking and develop that connection, creatively. It’s wonderful when that happens!

Games on the Go!

We can’t always plan or have resources available, so these ideas are specifically for when you’re out and about - in the car or on public transport, eating out, queuing, etc. Any time you’re on the go and in need of an ‘emergency’ idea to make the time pass quicker or easier, then dive into this list and take your pick!

Conversation Starters

Creativity with teens or pre-teens can simply be about how you talk to them, and I wholeheartedly encourage a bit of NONSENSE! They’re still kids after all (although don’t tell them I said that!), and we should all embrace our inner child and get creative with our thoughts and our conversations.

When they start to chat to you easily about the non-sensical things, when the serious stuff comes along (which it will!), they’ll be far more likely to chat to you about that too.

Quick Fix Ideas

EMERGENCY STATIONS! Quick and simple, easy to do ideas are a God-send when it comes to the swift changes in mood that teenagers are famous for! Sometimes, lightening the mood with a ‘3-minute wonder’ literally works wonders!

Try these out in an emergency, and repeat when needed! No need for a trip to A&E, this is your creative first aid kit right here!

Using a Screen Creatively!

There is no point trying to ban screens completely - that surely is a losing battle and one which doesn’t acknowledge that they can actually be a brilliant creative tool if used in such a way.

So these ideas INVOLVE a screen, but with creativity as the reason behind using one. Give your kid a purpose for using their screens and they won’t feel like they’re missing out!

Longer ‘Project’ Ideas

Speed is not always of the essence when it comes to creativity, and suggesting a longer ‘project’ for your child to do, can actually mean that they invest more of their time into working towards their end goal.

They may just love the idea so much that they CHOOSE to do it whenever they can! The dream, right?!

Give these ideas a go and see what ignites their imagination and drive!

Seasonal Ideas

I hate the word ‘themed’ but I guess these are, to a certain extent. Click in here if you need ideas for seasonal or celebratory times, or when the weather changes and it makes a difference to what you can do!

Happy Christmas, Halloween, Easter, Summer, Spring, the chilly winter nights, the end of school - whatever it is which is happening soon - grab your ideas here!

Destination Specific

Some ideas are better if you’re in a particular place, so wherever you’re heading, check in here first!

And some places lend themselves much better to creative ideas, but I’m sure that creativity can be injected ANYWHERE, so give them a go, wherever you are!

Mindfulness & Wellbeing

Teenagering is stressful. Can you remember that time of your life? If we have mechanisms in place, which could help us with anxiety and worry about the ‘unknown’, or just to calm us down and allow us to come back to what’s important, and most importantly, enjoyable, then how much of a difference would that have made to you?

These ideas give examples of how to use creativity for the wellbeing of your child. TO help with an introduction to mindfulness - in the creative sense - and learning how being creative can make a wonderful difference.

Wordy Creativity

Creativity is not only a visual ‘arty’ pursuit. Playing with language is something I have LOVED for a long time, and children love it too. It’s how they learnt to talk, to read to write, but unfortunately ‘playing’ with words doesn’t take priority in education.

So give them something which can simply involve wordplay - and you can join in too!

Pass the dictionary will you?!

Wonder Walks

There are numerous ideas that you can do while your out and about - without them even knowing that you’re ‘being creative’!

No matter where you are, in the countryside or in a city, you can find opportunities to spark a tiny bit of creativity and weave it into your day.

Challenges

Whether you have teenagers with a competitive streak or not, these ‘challenges’ will give them an incentive to jump at the chance of ‘playing your game’. They could compete against siblings, friends, or even you!

Have fun with it - do it just for enjoyment, or if everyone agrees you can crown a winner and dish out a ‘prize’!

Random Sh*t!

Categories are all well and good, but sometimes an idea is so random that it doesn’t really fit anywhere!

Mostly these are silly, utterly daft and some would say ‘pointless’ but they are far from irrelavant. This silliness helps to create that bond, that laughter, that connection. It’s vital to have a bit of daftness in our lives, and teenagers are no different (despite what their face might suggest initially! 🤣)
