Stop Motion

Stop motion is a kind of animation where individual photos are taken of a scene and then a small change is made as if the objects in the scene have moved slightly. Numerous photos are taken and then when put together it looks like they’re moving. It’s basically Wallis & Grommit!

So find a random object and make it come to life!

  • What would it do if it were alive?

  • What would it say? (They could add speech bubbles cut out of paper.)

  • Would it have any friends who could join it?

  • What would their interaction be about?

Or maybe its a stop motion film using old toys, or they could use their hands (might need someone to be the hands and someone else to film it - and they’d have to try and stay very still!).

You could even make a stop motion film which includes letters (written on scraps of paper, or on Post-It notes) which come together to create words - e.g. a Happy Birthday film, or Merry Christmas, or Congratulations. A great alternative to sending a card!

I made a stop motion film with all these tiny toys and the word ‘FUN’ - you can see it here!
